she's just so damn fashionable, this one. for any of the celeb/designer crossovers we've seen in recent years, this girl undoubtedly deserved a spot at the drawing table. "fenty" doesn't exactly roll of the tongue for me but nevertheless, it seems that anything this caribbean queen touches does indefinitely turn to gold, if gold in this case is outfit upon outfit of really fun shit.
many, many moons ago (when i still had dreams and endless afternoons to spend sitting at coffee shops), my girl sally and i spent a good number of hours concocting the idea for our breakout fashion line, to be called The A.V. Club. i'm sure it was her idea as she is magnificent and creative (seriously, check her monthly fashion horoscopes, they are brilliant). we were so excited, so giddy, like to girls rummaging through chloe sevigny's closet. we would have different categories based on the (terrible) high school stereotypes. you know, jocks, nerds, goth queens, cool kids, stoners, etc., etc. we even sketched out lots and lots of outfits, which i was going to pattern and sew. and then, as so many ideas do, other annoying life things got in our way and The A.V. Club never saw the light of the runway. i would think about it from time to time, like, dammit, that's still could be so fun and a theme like high school and the personality boxes that come with it is something that never goes out of style.
and then, this afternoon, while scrolling through the ny times style section online, as i am oft apt to do whenever i can sneak in two free minutes of screen indulgence, i saw it. ri ri. ri ri did it. she went ahead and stole all our thunder. as only she could. i mean, it's not like we could have competed with her global reach, influence or bank account (like, AT All) but still. as much as i felt the sting of seeing someone waaay more accomplished then yourself materialize your dreams, i was also really happy to see that if anyone was going to fashion-pimp high school types, that it was her. i mean, who else on this glorious globe or ours could have the forsight to draft up the most perfect theme, the most perfect clothing and set her show in the most perfect setting but rhianna? nan, that's who. i just hope that if she decides to do a second collection, that she calls sally and i in for extra consultation.
