This is Mayhem. A nickname I'm guessing her momma gave her. It's adorable. I don't even remember what late-night internet hole I fell down and found about this little girl but I am so glad I did. I mean, look at her. She constructed this look and tons of other just fabulous dresses she's made for herself out of the "junk" drawer at home. With the full support of an adoring momma who watched her daughter craft these outfits for months before being nagged by friends to put them on a blog for the rest of us to enjoy. I just love her.
I think Mayhem is the most perfect first post for this new adventure in offering classes out of my house because as we get older, we seem to get more scared of trying new things. Mayhem made this outfit using just her imagination, some construction paper, glue and tape. No pattern, no tape measure, no ruler, no scissors, no pins, no sewing machine. And she looks a-mazing. Learning how to operate a sewing machine is easy, I promise. It's letting go of any and all pre-conceived notions or voices from the outside telling you that you can't do it / you're too old / you're not creative enough / any other shitty excuses we use to stop ourselves from diving into something new. If you want to make clothes, come make clothes! Look a little Mayhem. Not a care in the world about anything except her own creative drive. We all have to put on something to wear in the morning. Wouldn't if make life that more fun if it was something you made yourself?
